The most telling example of this capacity—the October surprise that shouldn't have been surprising—came with the first presidential debate. The nation saw a superbly cogent Mitt Romney, speaking to them in terms instantly recognizable, words without artifice that addressed their real lives. Viewers saw the life in him, the play of mind, felt the sense of powerful will—that of a leader. It didn't matter all that much that the president looked most unpresidential, a man lost. I REALLY hope Obama is defeated, but it almost seems as if it would be too good to be true. Not that I am all that thrilled by Romney, either, but I suspect he would be more survivable.
I for myself am hoping our President is reelected. He inherited the worst mess from George Bush who should have been impeached for his crimes and lies about Iraq. When one thinks of all the lives lost for a war to avenge his father! If the nation gets Romney it will be George W all over again. Let us hope the American People realize that Romney is nothing more than an empty suit! I want a man of intelligence and caring in the White House not someone who only cares for himself and his family.
Dear Matterhorn, I agree. Dear Lara, I hate to disagree with you when we agree on so many other things. To me, Obama is the empty suit, mouthing the same tired socialist platitudes that would make Karl Marx proud. Obama is apart of the same revolutionary process that killed Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, except now it is not the government that is going to be overthrown by the Revolution, but the family, already under siege.
I cannot in good conscience vote for Obama because of the way his government has treated the Church, but Romney's policies revolt me. I am a woman of the left in most of my politics and think that social democracy (= watered-down, reformist, non-revolutionary socialism) is a good system of government. However, my consistent life beliefs make it hard for me to gain a foothold in Democratic political activism in California. Yes, I oppose the death penalty and war: I also oppose abortion and euthanasia. That seems to put me almost beyond the pale. Yet the thought of voting for Republicans leaves a nasty taste in my mouth.
I understand those feelings, Diamantia, believe me. As I was saying to someone yesterday, Romney is not my ideal candidate. If it were up to me, I would live in the France of St. Louis IX. But its not up to me. Since circumstances have placed me in a Republic it is my duty to vote for the person less likely to persecute my Church.
Through his radical support of abortion, taking over 1 million lives in the U.S. alone each year, Obama has been presiding over the largest-scale crime against humanity ever. With his blatant disregard of religious liberty, he has also been leading this nation towards totalitarianism, at a gallop. He poses as caring for the oppressed, but his actions tell a different story. Please, please, please, do NOT vote for him.
