Washington, D.C. is getting ready to welcome the Vicar of Christ. They have special banners and ads on the buses, and everything. Tomorrow he arrives. If blogging is limited this week, it is because I am watching the Pope, and praying for his safety.
Here is the chalice the Pope will use at one of the big outdoor Masses.
Meanwhile, rumors are flying. We shall see what happens. Share

Yesterday, I wanted to look around to see what folks were saying, for I, too, was thinking, "Oh, I hope this, oh, I hope that.." I clicked on one blog I hadn't been to in a while, and the [Adrienne's Catholic Corner] post said, "Monsignor Georg Gaenswein is coming today, and he's bringing the Holy Father with him." I don't think Catholic guys got that one, but we ladies did--I about split a gasket laughing. Isn't it a wonderful real religion wherein we can joke like that and know that the Holy Father has not lost an iota of love, but rather that a lightheartedness has been added?
I wasn't looking the last time a Pope came here, so I don't know what the reaction was ('though some venues are contrasting the visits), but so far, I am very thankful to the American people for such an outpouring of affectionate welcome. I don't care if he snubbed the big guy's dinner or not. I was more impressed that Gee Doubleya was excited to (unprecedentedly) greet him, for he has nothing to gain in gladhanding a Pope, now. Amen, if it's possible, let his heart be changed, as Jesus would want.
Well, you know that there is a lot of good left in the world when a little white-haired Bavarian man can descend from his plane and receive all those cheers from all those young people. The President was obviously moved, too. I am so proud that our country is giving the Vicar of Christ such a warm welcome.
