The Ultimate Antiquing Tour

Twenty-five years ago today, my childhood friend Virginia Thomas married her high school sweetheart Chip at the Visitation Monastery Chapel in Frederick, Maryland, where I also was married. Virginia published the first edition of my novel Trianon, and later she went on to create a shop of pure enchantment, of which I have previously written. The current edition of Southern Living Magazine features Virginia's shop as an essential stop when antiquing in Maryland and northern Virginia, saying:
Leaving Frederick, motor south on State 85 for a few miles to Buckeystown, where you’ll find Chartreuse & co. (301/874-1882), a group of tucked-away farm buildings that host tag sales the third weekend (Friday-Sunday) of each month. Chartreuse is owned by Virginia Crum, who dreamed up the idea that her family’s homestead could become a design destination. Her shop now fills three barns, features 20 vendors, and welcomes roughly 2,000 visitors during sale weekends. Inside, one barn houses a European boutique where crystal chandeliers dangle over a vintage red velvet-and-gilt French love seat and Tuscan trestle tables display ironstone platters. Haha, when I saw the title in Google Reader, I started looking for the flour or dust in the picture.

You see, to someone of my generation, "antiquing" refers to throwing flour all over someone who is asleep, then taking a picture. It's typically a prank done on college roommates and such.

I was wondering what on earth "Tea at Trianon" could possibly be doing with that, until I realized you were talking about antique shopping. :)

And no, I have never antiqued anyone ... it's a pretty terrible prank.

I have never heard of that. You must be younger than I thought! ;)

It truly is a shop of pure enchantment, and located in a lovely area for a fall drive as well as other sight seeing opportunities.

If I'm ever in Buckeystown I'll insist on heading to this shop.
