Hi Elena! I own the blog My Little Robins, and I noticed that you copied one of my posts, Parenting Lessons from Ma and Pa Ingalls. Please take it down as soon as you can, because this is a copyright infringement. Thank you.My response:
Mrs Martin, I linked back to your post and gave you credit and was hoping to send many readers to your blog. I have many homeschooling mothers who read my blog and I am always trying to find resouirces for them and for myself. I am sorry that you object to this. I did not infringe any copyright since I gave a clear attribution.
UPDATE: I am now being accused of copying Mrs Martin's entire post. Since I have been blogging for eleven years, I would never do that. Why after thousands of my own blog posts and five books would I steal a post? I copied one or two paragraphs in order to direct my readers to the post since I thought it offered some wisdom and insights that would be helpful. Now I am being lectured about blogging and copyright issues by Mrs. Martin's friends, even though I took down the entire post at her request. She did not want my readers to read what she had to say, which is a shame, since I thought it was clever.
For those who want to read about Ma and Pa Ingalls, HERE is a similar article from a parenting magazine from some years ago. Share

Just a friendly note from one blogger to another, I think you might have a misunderstanding of copyright and fair use. Copying the entire contents of someone else's post definitely is a violation of copyright. Quoting a small portion as a part of your own oridinal writing while giving credit to the author of the quote is what is considered "fair use". You can find more info here: https://fairuse.stanford.edu/overview/fair-use/what-is-fair-use/ I mention this because if you are found in viloation of copyright (either with text or images) and the owner reports you, you could find yourself subject to fines or even to having your blog shut down. Would hate to see you lose all of your work!
Posting another blogger's entire post rarely sends traffic to their site. It also can get you in Google's bad graces for publishing "duplicate content." Most bloggers are happy for you to mention their post and send your readers to their site to read it. I hope this helps clarify the original author's concerns.
Ladies, I did NOT copy the entire post. I would never do that. I copied one or two paragraphs in order to get my readers interested. And they were. I am sorry if Mrs Martin did not appreciate it. I have been blogging for eleven years and have published five books and know all about copyright laws. I do not need the instruction from you although no doubt it is well meant.I will NEVER link to Mrs. Martin's blog again because I prefer not to risk such the hassle of the false accusation of stealing her post.
Incidentally, I would prefer not to be threatened with being deprived of my blog which provides income for my family. Libel and slander are against the law as well, and I do have an attorney.
Thabk you for the clarification, Elena.
Most people like it when I link to their posts. I usually only copy a couple of paragraphs since the narrow space on my blog does not work well for long posts. There are some long posts but they have been mostly written by myself, often with quotes from historical documents.
I'm sorry, I didn't intend to sound threatening at all. I don't have anything against you personally. I was honestly and sincerly wondering if you were aware.
It's okay, Lynna. I understand.
