The Etiquette of Talking Politics

Is it possible to conduct a polite conversation during an election year, with friends and relatives who have diverging opinions? Such discourses can certainly be a challenge. Anna Post offers some basic guidelines. Yes, certain issues need to be defended. Convictions and opinions can be offered and exchanged without personal attacks and insulting words. Kindness and politeness are strengths; rudeness is not only a sign of weakness but it is ineffective in the long run.
