In any case, we have achieved the goals specified in the initial authorization. Saddam Hussein has been removed. An elected government is now in place in Iraq that meets with US approval. The only weapon of mass destruction in Iraq is our military presence. Why are we still over there? Conventional wisdom would dictate that when the "mission is accomplished", the victor goes home, and that is not considered a retreat. Share

God bless Ron Paul. I think he's the only one worth voting for.
I think so, too.
I agree. Interestingly, Hillary said exactly the same thing on Letterman last week.
When we leave, the civil war in Iraq shall escalate and come to a head. Therefore, we should leave as soon as possible, for this shall shorten the agony of the Iraqi people. Rest assured, the Shias and Kurds shall not allow a Sunni resurgence. It shall be bloody and nasty, but that is the way of it in those parts. The present government is no democracy (if you believe such, great is thy faith!), and the chance of such in the near (or even far) future is nil.
We HAVE acheived the main purpose, which was to remove the threat embodied in Saddam and his megalomania. The best thing now is to leave immediately, as the present conflict is, in actuality, a civil war in which we have no part. Al Queda is NOT going to take over, the Shias and Kurds shall see to that, thank you very much.
Is Bush acting like a poor knock-off of Woodrow Wilson? One wonders.

Well, Ron Paul is indeed the only one worth voting for, but still, the statement quoted is mostly just a face-saving means for a way out. We didn't go in to take Hussein out, nor to establish democracy. And we knew years ago there were no WMDs (as if we our whited sepulchre selves don't stock them).
We are still there not because there has been a victory; we have gotten nowhere on this sole proud venture to help eradicate terrorism. We simply couldn't find bin Laden in Afghanistan. A Pandora's box has been opened, rather than doing anything to further a peace accord in that region, and Mr. Highsign From Secret Fraternity doesn't want to go down in history as the worst, sneakiest, and most inept and foolhardy and callous president ever. He'll have some solid company there, tho'.
PS I felt that way even before my son got sucked into the Bush regime's blowback.
Well, in any case, Osama Bin Laden achieved his goal, that being to bankrupt the United States, with help from the foolhardy Cowboy Diplomacy of our President and Co-president.
I visited his website and read his stance on various issues. He seems to be very level headed and practical....as well as moral. We need a president like that!
