Midwifery in the Deep South

Linda has a series of posts on Mrs. Maude Callen, a registered nurse who ministered to the health needs of the rural poor in South Carolina in the early 1950's. Mrs. Callen delivered babies in quite primitive conditions, which is how much of the world was born until modern times. In many places, such conditions still exist.
