Homeschooling: The Pros and Cons

Terry has a great discussion going about the various aspects of homeschooling. I think that homeschooling needs to be seen not as an escape from the wicked world but rather as a positive, dynamic choice of parents excited about educating their children themselves. Yes, it is a way to protect children from the negative aspects of many schools, but it is beyond human capacity to protect our children from everything. There is much we must trust to God. Homeschooling is an innovative and creative way to introduce children to the beauty of creation, to the mysteries of the heavens, in a joyful, cheerful environment. There are enough people homeschooling now that there are daytime activities in which the children can socialize with others from like-minded families. I do think that some homeschoolers must make an effort to smile and not look suspicious of everyone.

  1. I couldn't agree more! We don't need to be "reactive" in that homeschooling is a positive choice on its own, and not merely in light of a failing system.
