I know too many details of everything they went through for me to enjoy the film.

Matterhorn, it depends on the film. Some films require an intense search. For the old Marie-Antoinette, it is easy to find photos from it.elena maria vidalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17129629173535139807noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534539169157708222.post-73398137699362589462009-02-18T23:57:00.000-05:002009-02-18T23:57:00.000-05:00Elena,How do you get these photos from films?Elena,

How do you get these photos from films?Mayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18230268418171628594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534539169157708222.post-34930666460736911122009-02-18T17:14:00.000-05:002009-02-18T17:14:00.000-05:00Thank you, ElenaAs a little kid in the fifties, I ...Thank you, Elena
As a little kid in the fifties, I saw Bambi's mother get killed in the movies. And Old Yeller too. But just last Autumn I saw the 1938 M.A. (again) and had to turn off the TV after they ripped the little Prince from her arms. I know exactly what you mean. Realizing that it was fact and not fiction makes it all the worse.tubbshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07272003035464034763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534539169157708222.post-10489081570649742442009-02-18T16:45:00.000-05:002009-02-18T16:45:00.000-05:00Glad you enjoy it, Matterhorn.Thank you, Amy, I wi...Glad you enjoy it, Matterhorn.

Thank you, Amy, I will check it out!

Tubbs, I don't think the 1938 version was ever in color. In spite of the historical inaccuracies in the film, I think that Norma Shearer's performance captured the Queen's personality very authentically. Overall, the drama tells the story of her tragedy in a compelling and moving manner. I love the old film, although I cannot always watch it; it is too heartrending for me to see them tear the Dauphin out of her arms.

I don't think that there has ever been an attempt to beatify Marie-Antoinette, simply because of her overall reputation as it has been falsely perpetuated, although immediately after her death many of the faithful regarded her as a martyr. There has been a move to canonize her husband (see my post about the death of Louis XVI.)

Katherine of Aragon certainly should be raised to the altar and probably will be someday, although I do not know what is going on officially in her regard.

As for Mary Queen of Scots, she was told right before her death that she was being killed for her religion. I did a post on her execution about a week ago.....elena maria vidalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17129629173535139807noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534539169157708222.post-79954756471034092412009-02-18T16:27:00.000-05:002009-02-18T16:27:00.000-05:00Was this movie ever colorized? If you ever want a good laugh, try to watch 'Forever Amber'...and the costumes (think Restoration babes in PattyPage ponytails) weren't even the worst aspect of that movie.
Elena, what did you think of that old Norma Shearer movie? I caught it the first time on TCM, and it actually got me interested in French history. I rented it for the second viewing and was amazed at its historic accuracy (for Hollywood, that is). It ripped my heart out! The graphic horrors perpetrated against M.A. could only be alluded to in the movie. Marie Antoinette is truly "La Reine Martyre".
I've read that in the past, there were some misappropriate efforts to push the cause of Mary Stuart's elevation to sainthood. (I don't want to go there)---But there are two famous queen-consorts, both known for their piety and heroic virtue, but I've yet to hear of any cause to elevate them. I'm referring to Katherine of Aragon and Marie Antoinette. Any readers know of such...?tubbshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07272003035464034763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534539169157708222.post-18274614462327238632009-02-18T16:06:00.000-05:002009-02-18T16:06:00.000-05:00There is an award waiting for you on my blog! There is an award waiting for you on my blog!Passages to the Pasthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16357366263195042306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534539169157708222.post-21540642470471003992009-02-18T13:41:00.000-05:002009-02-18T13:41:00.000-05:00Great post, I'd never heard of all this.
