We are never really in control - only through grace can we persevere.

I haven't seen this movie. I'll have to put this on my list.

I did love Witness though - I actually was able to meet Alexander Godunov in the early 80's(a little brag - he, he) after a ballet. Too bad he never got help for his alcoholism - such talent! He was also a gorgeous person, so tall! I was only a teen at the time, and was totally star stuck meeting him.Alexandrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12356420873078531863noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534539169157708222.post-77232900701308317292009-02-14T12:06:00.000-05:002009-02-14T12:06:00.000-05:00Thank you for the award. Luckily, his was not the only influence on the film, which has some golden moments. I agree that the scene that you describe goes to the heart of the matter. Both Jess and Eliza respond to the crisis according to their convictions (although Eliza loses her patience at one point and whacks the one soldier with a broom.)

And I'll have to write about the film "Witness" now.....elena maria vidalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17129629173535139807noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534539169157708222.post-60082646174534504402009-02-14T10:27:00.000-05:002009-02-14T10:27:00.000-05:00I love both Friendly Persuasion and Witness, espec...I love both Friendly Persuasion and Witness, especially the latter. I think that Wyler's basic message is that most rules are not worth obeying--music, dancing, fighting, loving outside one's religion are what is human not the strictures of faith. This is not the case in Witness. However, I think the scene where the father finds his son, Tony Perkins, lying in anguish next to the Confederate soldier that he has killed goes to the heart of the tragedy of violence and its toll on the human heart.Lindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10317796864224423184noreply@blogger.com
