OK, I'm late coming to this post (followed it in from "recommended posts" or something). The article says that the practice of bringing mums is not practiced in the US. In fact, it is very much practiced in New Orleans and Cajun French parts of Louisiana. To this day, the spicy smell of chrysanthemums reminds me of the autumnal visits to the cemeteries on and around All Souls Day.
