Thanks, that was interesting. I'm reading Founded on a Rock: A History of the Catholic Church by Louis DeWohl. A good review of Western civilization as well as church history. The Church survived because of extreme devotion; it's awe inspiring. What we went through during Diocletian's time and under the other Roman emperors, and still Christianity grew. Amazing!

Great! I also recommend that everyone read "Victories of the Martyrs" by St Alphonsus Liguori. Reading it will squelch any and all self-pity...and discouragement.
