How Christianity Abolished Slavery

Columba offers some interesting insights about the role of the Catholic Church in the eventual abolition of slavery in the ancient world.

The book by the eminent scholar of the Middle Ages, Regine Pernoud, Women In the Days of the Cathedrals, has this to say on the abolition of slavery as a byproduct of the rise of Christianity:
Is it not surprising that this change represented by the disappearance of slavery has not been more strongly emphasized? Schoolbooks do not mention this social fact whose paramount importance seems to have escaped historians. (Read entire article.) Share
